Dear Friends,

Beginning on March 21, we will provide an in-person worship option.

Our Sunday Schedule will be as follows:

  8:30 – Virtual Service

10:00 – In-person Service

11:00 – First Pres Kids (Sunday School) (Zoom)

11:00 – Coffee and Conversation (Zoom)

12:00 – Adult Study

We are glad to be at a place where we can share our plans.

Because of continued limitations on crowd sizes and the need for physical distancing, in-person worship will initially look different from before pandemic restrictions.

The worship service will be under one hour. The service will generally follow the format of worship prior to the pandemic. We will not have a children’s message, passing of the peace, and our sharing of joys and concerns will be conducted differently. Our offering will be received by inviting people to place donations in designated baskets. We will sing during worship (masked) as we have found a protocol that provides a safe plan to conduct congregational singing. Everyone in attendance will be required to wear a mask and remain socially distanced throughout the service.

Here are some other things you need to know as we prepare to gather in person.

Health & Safety Considerations. We ask that if you have a fever or any symptoms of illness that you participate in worship from home. We are following health and government guidelines, which call for face masks to be worn in indoor public spaces.

Entering and Exiting. All worshippers will be asked to enter and exit the building from the Ridge Road building entrance nearest to E. Passaic Ave (the entrance by Rev. Pete’s office). Once you arrive, you will be asked to answer a series of health questions and your temperature will be taken. Once service is finished, you will be instructed to leave the building immediately. Please enter and exit only at designated locations.

Physical Distancing. Ushers will show you to your seats when you arrive and will be seating you away from others so that we can appropriately distance, as is recommended by health guidelines.

Nursery & Children’s Church. At this time, we will not have a nursery or children’s church.

Access to Other Parts of the Building. Only the sanctuary, and restrooms around the sanctuary will be open to worshippers. There will be no access allowed to any other parts of the building.

Other Information. We strongly encourage you to make a reservation to attend worship each Sunday. You may do so by either emailing the church ( or go to our church’s website (

If you have any questions, please contact the church,

A place for community, A place of God's love

At First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford we, most importantly, want to welcome you with love. As a church located in the center of town, we view ourselves as a part of your world. As you walk down Park Avenue, we realize we hold a presence with our stained glass and historic brown stones. But what you may not yet know, is that beyond our many red doors, is a community that is there for you. One who extends open hearts and sincere love. Jesus intended for us to love each other, so simple our calling. And we have decided to do just that. So join us, walk on in, and let's meet face to face. Hear our pipe organ, meet our families, share in our joy. There is a warm welcome here.
